My most recent film “A fine spring day” exemplifies how a life of an individual addresses political textures of the society through personal and at the same time collective recollections of the historical events and legacies. This project attempts to capture specific moments at the intersection of culture, economy, and politics, presenting our convoluted, yet perpetual relationship to historical legacies in a society. By contemplating how a social sphere influences people both on personal and political levels, I present memories of the events that continue to reverberate through the present, providing a trajectory for us to understand our recent past. My work represents a synchronic landscape of the layers of complexities that existed in 1988. Through my introspection of the momentous period symbolized by 1988 Seoul Olympics, I provide a scopic window, through which our existence vis-à-vis a collective identity, desires vis-à-vis a social aspiration are shone on by the sun called history.
