“1975 of My Mother and Me,” the final installment of the series Where Do You Come From, marks the year 1975 when the artist’s parents got married. He explores the meaning of marriage and family retrospectively. From the artist’s viewpoint, his mother’s anguish is beyond her personal adversity; instead, she could symbolize any other woman living under the patriarchy of that era. The work shows numerous customs of the traditional wedding ceremony, his mother’s suffering at the hands of his father and elder brother during her marriage, and an imagining of an interaction between his uterine sister and his mother before her second marriage.
