The artist duo Lernert & Sander are known for their witty and colorful video works that stylistically remind of the world of advertising. ‘Elektrotechnique’ is the video clip that they made for the song of the same title by the popular Dutch band De Jeugd Van Tegenwoordig (‘Kids these Days’). In terms of their music the band is on the line between hip-hop and electronic music, although they are also appreciated for their creative and equivocal texts. In this video Lernert & Sander transform domestic appliances into sex machines and sadomasochistic accessories. As in their earlier video series ‘Revenge’ (2009), the objects come to life in a stylized setting. An office chair rotates suggestively while slowly being bound up; a vacuum cleaner hose moves back and forth, up and down; two disposable rubber gloves fill with air to the rhythm of the music. A bottle of champagne gets shaken on a fitness vibrator and a watermelon dangles threateningly above a carton of milk. Then it’s just a matter of waiting for the climax!
