Genetically Modified (GM) food technology is unpredictable, untested, and unproven. We have no clear idea what long-term effects it will have on those who consume it, the lands on which it is grown, or what wide-ranging environmental impacts can occur. Monsantra, is named, after the Monsanto Corporation, the largest producer of genetically modified seed. Like a B-movie Godzilla, Monsantra is a hybrid of imagination, possibility, and reality. Using GM seeds from the Monsanto Corporation, plants are grafted onto robotic bases to become an organism with no clear heritage and no clear future. This GM plant-robot hybrid asks the question, what will it all become?
